Garden design, fully resolved before work begins

jng banner mobile

Detailed garden designs for distinctive homes, with 3D visualisation, planting plans and technical drawings that give you and your contractor clarity before anything starts on site.

Based in Coventry. Garden design across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the Cotswolds.

Why resolve the garden before work begins?

A beautiful garden can become stressful, expensive or disappointing when key decisions are left until construction. Layout, levels, materials, planting and contractor details all need to be considered before work starts on site.

Jon Norman Garden Design helps you make those decisions early, so the design is clear, considered and ready to move forward with confidence.

Hi, I’m Jon Norman Venables

A Coventry-based garden designer with a detail-first approach

jng landscape designer hero 01
jng landscape designer hero 02

I design gardens for homeowners who want the reassurance of a clear, considered plan before work begins. Not just a sketch or a loose idea, but a detailed design that brings together creative thinking, planting knowledge, 3D visualisation and practical detail.

Before becoming a garden designer, I worked in technical and training roles where clarity, structure and accuracy were essential. That experience now shapes the way I approach garden design. Every garden needs to feel beautiful and personal, but it also needs to be properly understood, priced and built.

My role is to guide you from early ideas through to build-ready drawings, so you can make confident decisions before work starts on site.

Trusted by homeowners and contractors

Clients value the finished garden. Contractors value the clarity of the plans. Both matter when you want a garden that can be understood, priced and built with confidence.

“I have to say that is undoubtedly the most comprehensive design I have ever seen! This will make quoting a dream.”

Marc Lane

MD Landscapia Ltd.

“Jon is meticulous in all stages

from the initial CAD planning to the final planting process. He pays attention to the fine detail and is helpful, interactive and informative.”

Geoff Gould

“Jon produced detailed plans

for our contractors to follow. The planting scheme was just what we wanted, working with our existing plants and introducing low-maintenance plants that would work well with our soil.”

Julie Hill

"I absolutely love my beautiful garden.

“I wonder at it every day for its beautiful structural design and layout, and the beauty and cleverness of Jon’s chosen plants.”

Helpful garden planning advice

Practical guidance for homeowners planning a garden design project. From budgeting and briefing to planting, materials and preparing for the build.

How much does a garden designer cost?

Every garden we design is unique. Garden design is a bespoke service industry where the product we create is unique by default. No two gardens are the same, therefore no two designs are the same and thus no two sets of design costs are the same, too.

The Cost of a Garden Makeover

The cost of a garden makeover. Think of your garden it as a big-ticket expense similar to a house, a car or a new kitchen. Time and consideration must be made to its creation and upkeep.

Why should you hire a garden designer?

The function of a garden designer is a complex and multi-disciplined job role. A good garden designer needs to be part engineer, part draughtsman, a horticultural expert, have an artistic flair and an incredible spatial awareness.

Ready to discuss your garden?

If you’re planning a significant garden project and want the design properly resolved before work begins, the next step is a short design call.

We’ll discuss your garden, budget, timescale and whether the project is the right fit.

Based in Coventry. Designing gardens across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the Cotswolds.

FAQs

My work is best suited to homeowners planning a considered garden project where layout, planting, materials and build detail need to be properly resolved before work begins. If you are unsure, the design call is the best place to discuss your garden, budget and timescale.

I focus on garden design, technical detail, planting design and build-stage support. I can prepare the plans and information needed for contractors to price and build with confidence, and I can remain involved during the build to help protect the integrity of the design.

A build-ready garden design may include layout plans, 3D visuals, planting plans, technical drawings, material direction and contractor-ready detail. The aim is to reduce uncertainty before work starts on site.

The cost depends on the size, complexity and level of detail required. After an initial call, I can advise which service is most appropriate and whether a full design, planting design or consultancy session is the best next step.

I am based in Coventry and design gardens across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the Cotswolds. I may also consider selected projects outside this area where the project is the right fit.

The call is a short initial conversation to understand your garden, what you want to achieve, your likely budget, timescale and whether the project is a good fit for the way I work.
