Based in Coventry, designing gardens across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the North Cotswolds.
The things that make a great garden are closely connected. It’s that feeling when you step outside, the view from the house, how one space leads to another, and how the planting settles everything into place.
Working through those decisions before construction begins means the garden is being built from a clear design, not a series of expensive assumptions.
Plans and 3D views allow you to explore the layout, understand the spaces and see how the finished garden will look.
Terraces, paths, planting, materials and views are all considered together, so the garden feels natural.
Drawings and technical detail help contractors understand what is intended, price the work properly and carry the design through to construction.
Every garden begins with a particular house, a particular setting and a different way of living. These projects show how those ingredients can be shaped into gardens with character of their own.
A family garden designed for growing, gathering and exploring. Sweeping paths and generous planting create a richer journey through the space, while improved drainage allows the garden to be enjoyed throughout the year.
A two-acre rural garden shaped around a natural swimming pond, generous entertaining spaces and long views across the grounds.
A village garden where architectural lines, layered planting, a pergola and pool create a natural connection between the house and its wider setting.
Every garden project needs a different level of design input. My complete garden design service helps you choose the right route. From full design and build support to focused planting design or early-stage consultancy.
One complete design for the whole garden
A garden does not come together by choosing the component parts, a terrace, a pergola, some planting and they all work together. The garden layout, its views, the choice of materials and planting all affect how well the garden works.
I design every garden with those decisions in mind. I create plans and 3D views that allow you to understand the garden before it is built.
Where needed, I develop the design to include planting plans, technical drawings and ongoing support during contractor pricing and construction.
I’m Jon Norman, a garden designer based in Coventry. I work directly with each client, taking the garden from first ideas through to the detail that carries it to construction.
I don’t begin with a signature style or a catalogue of features. I start with the property, the setting and what you want the garden to add to your life. Layout, views, planting and materials are developed together, so the finished garden feels as though it belongs.
I create plans and 3D views to let you see the garden take shape and make informed decisions as the design develops.
Where a project needs it, I prepare planting plans, technical drawings and information for contractors, so the original idea carries through to the garden that gets built.
Before retraining in garden design, I spent more than 20 years in IT training and consultancy. It taught me to untangle complicated problems, explain decisions clearly and keep sight of the solution while managing the detail. This has proved surprisingly useful in my current role.
Clients value the finished garden. Contractors value the clarity of the plans. Both matter when you want a garden that can be understood, priced and built with confidence.

Not every question calls for a complete design.
A Garden Design Consultancy gives you focused advice on the space, the ideas you are considering and the decisions that are proving difficult.
It can help you see the garden differently, test a direction or solve a particular problem—without commissioning a complete design.
Before work begins, there are decisions about budget, scope and professional help that are worth understanding. These articles explain them plainly.
Tell me about your garden, what’s not working and what you would like it to become.
The Design Call is a straightforward initial conversation about your project, its likely scope and whether I am the right designer to help you.
Based in Coventry. Designing gardens across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the North Cotswolds.
My work is best suited to homeowners planning a considered garden project where layout, planting, materials and build detail need to be properly resolved before work begins. If you are unsure, the design call is the best place to discuss your garden, budget and timescale.
I focus on garden design, technical detail, planting design and build-stage support. I can prepare the plans and information needed for contractors to price and build with confidence, and I can remain involved during the build to help protect the integrity of the design.
Depending on the project, Garden Design can include:
Your proposal will explain exactly what the project requires and what is included.
Fees are quoted individually according to the size and complexity of the garden and the work required.
Site conditions, planting, technical detail and the level of contractor or construction-stage support can all affect the scope.
You will receive a clear proposal explaining the stages, deliverables and fee before deciding whether to proceed.
I am based in Coventry and principally work across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and selected North Cotswold locations.
Projects further afield may also be considered where the scale and nature of the garden make the travel practical.
The Design Call is a short initial conversation about the garden, what you would like to change, the stage you have reached and the likely budget and timescale.
It is not a design session. Its purpose is to understand the project, answer initial questions and establish whether working together makes sense.
