The Architectural Garden

A sophisticated outdoor living space where strong structure meets soft planting
Table View Across garden

This garden was designed as a modern outdoor sanctuary:

  • With space to cook, dine, relax and entertain.

  • Crisp paving, a pergola pathway, a bespoke outdoor kitchen and layered planting give the garden structure, softness and a clear connection to the home.
  • The result is a refined, practical garden that feels elegant, private and easy to enjoy.

The Brief

  • The clients wanted their garden to become a sophisticated extension of the home.
It needed to support several ways of living outside: dining, cooking, relaxing, entertaining and enjoying quieter moments. Each area had to feel clearly defined, but the garden could not become a series of disconnected spaces.
  • There was also an important balance to strike.
The design needed enough structure to feel contemporary and architectural, but it also needed softness. Without planting, movement and texture, a garden like this can easily feel too hard or too formal.
  • The brief was simple.
Create a space that felt polished, comfortable and complete.

The Design Response

  • A pergola pathway that shapes the garden The pergolas create structure, height and rhythm, framing views and helping the garden feel connected as you move through it.
  • A bespoke outdoor kitchen pavilion The outdoor kitchen gives the garden a generous entertaining focus, creating a practical and elegant setting for cooking and dining outside.
  • Crisp porcelain paving The contemporary grey paving provides a refined surface that supports the architectural feel of the garden without competing with the planting.
  • Layered planting with seasonal interest Salvias, lavender, hydrangeas, grasses and evergreen structure bring softness, colour, movement and year-round presence.
